Sladek "We were using another package for Web development, but decided to switch to RPGsp since it offered so many advantages. It gave us a visual development environment for HTML Web pages, similar to Screen Design Aid (SDA) for green screens. Other packages just came with text editors. I found that the RPGsp designer is better than something like FrontPage, plus the editor has RPG prompting, RPG syntax checking, RPG help text, and HTML help text all built-in. The compiled programs run very fast, and we didn’t have to buy any PC servers or PC software licenses. Using RPG code running on our iSeries, we are able to use the secured socket layer to access our level 3 credit card processing package. Our Web programs and green screen programs maintain the same data files, so we don’t have to synchronize data in multiple systems. We can move code from RPG to RPGsp with just a cut and paste function. In addition, the end-result is a real Web application, whereas with webfacing or other screen-scraping programs, you just end up with green screens presented to the web. It's nice that RPGsp wizards can build the initial program. Wizards can also be used to add advanced fields to an existing program. This saves a lot of time. I also like that RPGsp uses externally described DB and HTML files. I used to have to code SQL to update database files. This took a lot more code and a lot more time. RPGsp also lets me put RPG fields directly onto a screen. With other systems, I couldn’t have screen fields that were the same as database fields. I needed to code a lot of statements to move information from the database to the screen. With RPGsp, none of that is necessary." Steve

biggest limitation of the iSeries is the lack of a base graphical terminal.
Showing pictures of items in an inventory system is important. Showing
color-coded maps of sales territories is required in today’s
world. The iSeries has a graphical terminal with the Web interface,
and RPGsp makes it easy to mix database applications and graphics together.
I used many other tools in the past from various vendors, and prefer
RPGsp over all of them. Other tools required you to use strange Macro
languages (not RPG) or required PC servers. RPGsp allowed me to reuse
RPG logic and RPG skills to create Web applications very quickly. Steven
